Irene

New Zealand Guide

Where were you born and where did you grow up?
Riverton! Pretty far South, you can see Stewart Island from my house! Land of rolling rrr's and cheese rolls.

What are your hobbies?
Trail running, surfing and cooking/eating a BBQ.

What has been your greatest outdoor adventure?
Oh crikey, could never nail it down to one. But I'm a sucker for a good sunrise/sunset. You really can't beat a West Coast sunset (you actually can't beat a lot on the West Coast).

What did you do before you became a guide?
Worked in Marketing at a Real Estate firm. I still do the odd thing for them here and there. Pretty lucky to be able to live the dream at Active and still work in an area relevant to my soon to be degree.

Do you have a favourite quote?
I'm not much of a quotes person but am notorious for blasting into a song relevant to the situation. Can't go past Stairway to Heaven, Led Zepplin when heading up the Sealy Tarns track ahah.

Have you studied beyond school? If so in what?
Sure did/am! I'm in the last legs of a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Marketing and Finance.

Testimonials

“Irene is awesome - full of positive energy and incredible work ethic. Cooking, cleaning, planning the next meal, caring to everyone's needs. Wow! Impressive young person. My first impression of Irene is that she is a clear problem solver and takes ownership for a great client experience. Someone's luggage didn't make the flight and Irene was on it until it was resolved and the luggage made it to our next destination. She is a trooper on hikes, carrying lots of provisions and led us through a strenuous 3 day hike - then cooked and cleaned and made lunches for next day. Over achiever!! Irene was adored by everyone in our group. :)”

“Irene was wonderful. She was so enthusiastic, fun, generous, patient. Great chef! Bent over backwards to make the experience super for everyone. A wonderful human being. Irene and Tash worked so well together and were so incredibly patient "babysitting" we adult tourists for 14 days straight. Amazing. So honoured to have met them both.”
