Where to Watch the 2023 Solar Eclipse
On October 14th, 2023, North, Central and South America will witness an incredible astronomical event…
Grand Teton and Yellowstone’s majesty springs to life on our adventure-filled Wyoming vacations. Each vacation celebrates one of North America’s most recognized and revered mountain ranges. The highest of the snow-capped, snaggle-toothed Tetons towers 13,770 feet into the clouds. Twelve breathtaking summits in all, the Tetons are home to pristine glacier-carved valleys, spruce and fir forests, alpine meadows, and rushing creeks.
Yellowstone is the world’s first national park. Its beautiful mountains create spectacular valleys that are peppered with geysers, fumaroles, steam vents, and mud pots. Rushing rivers feed crystalline lakes, and lush forests make a comfortable home for grizzly bears, moose, elk, bison, wolves, deer, coyotes, and eagles.
Spend your Wyoming vacations hiking Yellowstone’s backcountry trails and the granite spires of the Tetons. Bike winding country roads, past historic ranches, and wildflower-studded meadows. Raft the rowdy Snake River through a spectacular granite canyon. Witness, up close, the rich diversity of wildlife. At night, cheer on the wranglers at the Jackson Rodeo, dig into a steak dinner, kick back with a cold beverage, and count the stars polka-dotting an open night sky.
Check out our incredible adventures exploring the highlights and hidden gems of North America!!
Activity Level 1
What's The Rush?
I'm active and in decent shape and not looking to experience a place just through a bus window. I'm happy to slow down on the trail, soak it in and breathe in the fresh air.
Walking: 2-3 hours per day on gentle-gradient trails.
Other activities: On these trips, you'll be taking part in a range of other activities that focus less on building up a sweat and more on enjoying the finer things in life.
Activity Level 2
On the Move
Sure, I own some hiking boots, they're even worn in, but they don't go on long trips. I like my creature comforts and I like to give a range of activities a go.
Walking: 2-4 hours per day on gentle to moderate gradient trails. No multi-day hikes.
Biking: 1-3 hours, cruisy rides achievable by anyone, even first-timers. Kayaking: 1-3 hours, entry-level sea kayaking with specialist guides and stable boats.
Other activities (i.e. snorkeling): Always optional and very little exertion required. A highlight for many!
Activity Level 3
Step It Up
I love an active vacation. Engaging in a challenging activity with a difficult goal, such as reaching a summit, is exactly what I need to unwind in the evenings.
Hiking: Typically, 3-6 hours per day on well-formed backcountry trails. Expect some significant gradient inclines and declines.
Altitude: Your trip may include some moderate altitude areas, though these don't form the focus of the trip and are generally manageable.
Biking: 1-3 hours on well-formed paths or roads where you can expect some hills with moderate climbs and descents.
Kayaking: 1-3 hours, entry-level sea kayaking with specialist guides and stable boats.
Other activities (i.e. caving): Always optional and very little exertion required. A highlight for many!
Activity Level 4
Challenge Accepted
I'll let my trusty guides sweat the small things, so I can focus on my goal. Getting to the top, reaching the end, achieving my dreams! Sure, it'll be tough, but the views will be worth it.
Hiking / Trekking: Typically, 4–6-hour hikes with options for more, sometimes with limited or no vehicle support and nearly always with ascents and descents.
Altitude: Some trips at this level will reach a significant altitude. We are here to help you manage that and make your experience one to cherish for a lifetime.
Biking & Kayaking: If one, or both, of these activities are 'your thing,' there are trip options in this range, allowing you to be on two wheels or with a paddle in your hand for most of the day.
Activity Level 5
The Upper Limit
I'm ready to put in the hard work to reap the rewards. I'm a seasoned adventurer, not afraid to get my boots wet.
Trekking & Altitude: This is classic trekking, at altitude. Some might even call it 'expedition-style.' We've had folks from all walks of life achieve their dreams on our grade 5 trips, so if you're in for a challenge get in touch to find out if this is for you.

We recommend traveling in Wyoming literally at any time of year! After all, two of our world’s most beautiful national parks, Yellowstone and Grand Teton, beg to be explored year round. Whatever time of year you decide to travel and whatever type of Wyoming vacation packages you choose, your experience will be one you won’t soon forget!
Don’t worry, you don’t need to pack your formal wear for Wyoming vacations out west, so you’ll have plenty of room for all the layers you’ll want to have on hand for the different types of weather that may arise on your Wyoming vacation. They say, “if you don’t like the weather in Wyoming, wait five minutes” as the weather in Yellowstone and the Tetons can be unpredictable. You’ll want to prepare for hot, cold, and everything in between, no matter what time of year it is! Read on for a few great tips on how to prepare for your adventure.
Expect Four Different Seasons in a Day.
We’ve heard stories of sun, rain, sleet, hail, and snow – all in a single day! While that many types of weather may be uncommon, you’ll want to pack for both the heat and the cold, no matter the time of year. In the summertime, it may be hot during the day, but the nights can be very cool, while in the winter it’ll be cold outside, but toasty warm in the lodges. Check weather.com for an up-to-date forecast while you do your packing, so you know what to expect (but play it on the safe side and pack some layers – which brings us to our next point)
Layer Up.
Layering your clothing can play a crucial role in your comfort while on vacation in Wyoming. In the summertime, if you’re hot, you can always strip down a layer or two to cool off. In the winter, if you’re cold, adding an extra layer or two (or three or four) never hurts. You’ll want to pack some lightweight, moisture-wicking under layers and thicker (but breathable) outer layers. Always bring a light winter hat and gloves, no matter what time of year (trust us, you won’t regret it).
Pack Your Raincoat – and Make Sure it’s Always Accessible!
In the summertime, an afternoon thunderstorm can appear quite unexpectedly; and when it rains, it pours (usually for a short time but long enough to get you soaked without adequate gear!) You’ll want to bring along a quality rain jacket (we’re not talking ponchos here), and keep it near the top or strapped onto the outside of your pack for easy access. Keeping yourself dry will keep a smile on your face.
Don’t Forget Your Camera
You are about to travel to big sky country where the mountains touch the clouds, the wildlife roam the plains and the geysers put on a water show you’ll never forget! Bring your Nikon, your GoPro, your iPhone (just not your drones, those are illegal!) You’ll find a million things to take pictures of in Wyoming and will love looking back at the photo memories of your vacation years from now.

We find that many of our guests come from low elevations (many from sea level!) and adjusting to the high altitude of Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks (anywhere between 6,500 and 8,000 feet) can be a bit of a struggle during the first few days. Vacationing in a higher elevation means you need to drink lots of water (more than you think since you’re also being active), lay off large amounts of alcohol, and take it a little easier than you typically would out there on the trails. It will take a few days for your body to adjust, but it’ll get there! Also, don’t forget to slather on the sunscreen – humidity is low, and sun exposure is high (even on a cloudy day!)
Your Adventure Consultants are full of ideas for ways to extend your Wyoming adventure if you have a few days to spare on either end of your trip. In the summertime, zip lining, fly fishing, horseback riding, road tripping, museum touring, peak conquering and endless other activities are abundant in or near your host city. In the winter, experience skiing or snowboarding at a local resort, take a sleigh ride through thousands of “wapiti” on the National Elk Refuge or hunker down in a quaint B&B on the edge of town.
Did you know that Yellowstone National Park is larger than the states of Delaware and Rhode Island combined?! Because the national parks of Wyoming are so large, they can be challenging to navigate on your own, plus, there are so many fantastic sites to see that it can be overwhelming to pick and choose what exactly you want to look at on your Wyoming adventure. Leave it to the experts at Austin Adventures to guide you to the perfect Wyoming vacation. Our expert tour guides will take you to all the “gotta-see-it” attractions (often in a way that most tourists don’t know about), but they’ll also show you the hidden gems that you just won’t find without expert knowledge. We’ve been running guided vacations in Wyoming for decades, and we feel we know how to reveal the best of Cowboy Country!
