Family Travel FAQs

What is the minimum age for children?

For designated family vacations, we accommodate children as young as 6 (7 years old on our Kenai Fjords Family Vacation).
For adult trips, the minimum age is 16 years old.

What's included in the cost of the trip?

Our trips are mostly all-inclusive and typically include the following:

  • Professional guides
  • Accommodation
  • Meals mentioned in the itinerary (B = Breakfast, L = Lunch, D = Dinner)
  • Activities mentioned in the itinerary
  • Any necessary equipment - all safe and well-maintained
  • Transportation from trip start to end
  • Gratuities for hotels, restaurants, and activities
  • Park and other entry fees
  • Access to our online My Account featuring trip-planning materials

How difficult and flexible are trip activities?

Every trip has an activity level outlining the level of physical ability you’ll need to participate.

For the most part, activities on trips are entirely optional, so if you’re not feeling up to a particular activity on any given day, you’re more than welcome to give it a miss. While the others in your group participate.

What if my children are adults (over 18?)

We welcome teens 16 years and older on our adult-only designated vacations.

Is there a discount for children traveling?

Yes, child discounts are available for children 12 and under at time of travel.

How large are the groups?

Most family trips accommodate an average of 12-18 guests.

Are only parents and children allowed on family trips?

We welcome parents and kids, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, grandparents and grandkids, and everyone in between. As long as your group includes a traveler between the ages of 7 and 17, you can book a family adventure.

How many leaders are there for each group?

Depending on the group size, you will have 2 or 3 leaders on your family vacation.

My child is a picky eater. Will there be special meals for kids?

Yes – we know how to take care of kids’ dietary preferences on our adventures. Our guides serve picnics “deconstructed”, meaning if we offer a taco day for example – it's a “build-your-own" kind of meal. We also choose restaurants with kids menus if at all possible. If your kid only likes to stick to certain food groups (i.e. chicken nuggets and buttered noodles), give us a heads-up on their dietary requests so we can prepare accordingly.

Can children (or adults) opt out of the activities?

Yes. An adult must stay behind with a child if he/she opts out of an activity, but we can certainly accommodate anyone who wishes to opt out.

How do rooming arrangements work?

Trip prices are based on shared arrangements (typically two guests per room), unless otherwise stated. For solo travelers, we’ll pair you with another person of the same gender to share rooms and if there’s no one suitable to share with, there’s no forced single supplement. However, if you specifically request your own rooms, you can opt to pay the single supplement. Solo travelers who book within 120 days of departure, where there are no other solo travelers willing to share, will be required to pay the single supplement.

For Family Vacation bookings, families consisting of four guests traveling with children aged 17 and under will be automatically assigned one shared room. However, the following alternative rooming allocations are available:

  • Families consisting of four guests with all children aged 13 and above are welcome to opt for additional rooms as per advertised double occupancy adult rates.
  • Families consisting of four guests with at least one child aged 12 and under are automatically assigned a shared room. However, families can opt to pay the adult rates for all guests in their family to have an additional room.
  • The same principles apply for families consisting of more than four guests.

Rooming preferences are subject to availability and must be communicated in writing at time of booking. Automatic assignments as per this policy will be applied in the absence of any specification provided by guests. Any request for additional rooms during trips will be at guests’ own expense and subject to rates made available by the accommodation provider at the time. All minors (guests aged 17 and under) must be accompanied by at least one adult.
